Description
This course will prepare students for assisting doctors with the performance of vital sign readings. Topics covered include blood pressure, pulse, respiration, height, weight, and temperature readings.
This 2-hour course is broken into 1-hour sections. All lesson quizzes are multiple-choice. There are 8 possible points for this course. Each quiz consists of 4 questions designed to test knowledge of the lesson, objectives, and section goals. Students must successfully answer 3 of the 4 questions correctly to receive completion for that individual section. Students must attain an overall score of 6 out of 8, which is equivalent to 75% or better to pass the course. Students will be allowed to retake each section quiz after re-studying the course material for a minimum of 5 minutes. Each section has a multiple-choice test, there are 8 possible points for this course.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Perform a blood pressure exam
2. Identify pulse areas and the arteries in those locations
3. Accurately count the patient's pulse and respiration to determine the speed of heart and breathing rate per minute
4. Take measurements of the patient’s height and weight
5. Use a thermometer to record the patient’s temperature
6. Recognize accepted normal for vital readings
7. Document and record readings in the patient file accurately.
8. Communicate with other health care professionals’ concerns or abnormal measurements/readings
