Description

In this course students will learn about common diseases and conditions that present to a chiropractic office.  Students will explore and learn how to identify the various flags of care while taking a patient history.  Conditions that will be explored are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, 5 types of headaches fibromyalgia, torticollis and whiplash, inflammatory conditions, postural abnormalities, and carpal tunnel syndrome treated by a chiropractor.  Students will review conditions that require precautions to treat and conditions that are contraindicated for chiropractic manipulation.   In this course students will also learn how to perform vital signs and lifesaving CPR.

This 6-hour course is broken into 1-hour sections.  All lesson quizzes are multiple choice.  There are 24 possible points for this course.  Each quiz consists of 4 questions designed to test knowledge of the lesson, objectives, and section goals.  Students must successfully answer 3 of the 4 questions correctly to receive a completion for that individual section.  Students must attain an overall score of 18 out of 24, which is equivalent to 75% or better to pass the course.  Students will be allowed to retake each section quiz after re-studying the course material for a minimum of 5 minutes.  Each section has a multiple-choice test, there are 24 possible points for this course.

Learning Objectives

1.    Students will be able to identify risk factors known as red and yellow flags.

2.    Perform a patient history asking questions that will help to identify blue and black flags associated with patients developing chronic pain.

3.    Identify common diseases/conditions that are treated with chiropractic

4.    Recognize conditions that have precautions or are contraindicated for chiropractic manipulation

5.    Perform adult, child and infant CPR. 

6.    Assist a choking victim. 

7.    Operate an AED

8.    Perform chest compression only resuscitation
